Manna From Heaven

Philippians 4:19, NCV

"My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need."

Exodus 16:4, NLT

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.”

Appearance & Taste: It looked like small, flaky white frost or coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey. The Hebrew word manna literally translates to "What is it?".   (Exodus 16:31)

The Rules:

  • People gathered only what they needed for each day (about one Omer or two quarts per person).

  • Leftovers saved until morning would spoil and breed worms (except on the sixth day, when they gathered a double portion to rest on the Sabbath). Exodus 16:19-26

Preservation: An Omer of manna was placed in a golden jar inside the Ark of the Covenant as a generational reminder of God's provision. (Hebrews 9:4)

New Testament Meaning: In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses the story of physical manna as a parallel to Himself as the spiritual "Bread of Life".  (John 6)

  • The Bible notes that when the Israelites gathered manna, some gathered much and some gathered little. Yet, when they measured it out, everyone had exactly what they needed.

  • GOD does provide for each of us – each gal is given what GOD wants her to have – some career success, some as great parents, some have a marriage others covet, some gals can withstand whatever challenges that present themselves – some feel inadequate and wonder if GOD forgot about them.

  • As we remember, GOD calls each of us to something unique.  GOD gives us what we need each and every day, in order to provide for our specific calling.

Lessons from Manna from Heaven – (40 years until they reached Caanan)

•        His power – approximately 3 million people – followed them wherever they traveled – exclusively for Israel.

•        His dependability – it happened everyday except Sabbath – trust GOD daily.

•        His mercy – whether obedient or rebellious

•        They were humbled – they needed GOD – they could not survive alone without GOD

•        They were special – they knew about GOD Almighty –covenant with Israel – He’ll love us.

•        They had survival beyond survival – they had a covenant relationship with GOD

Our Manna is JESUS CHRIST!

Matthew 6:26, KJV

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.                                                    Are ye not much better than they?"

John 6:35, ESV

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’”

John 14:16, ESV

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.“

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

Psalm 18

32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

36 You provide a broad path so that my ankles do not give way.
