Weekly Update
Hi ladies,
October is here – I get so confused about what to wear! Red and Black to support my Dawgs, Orange and Black for Halloween, or Pink to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness month. This month you are likely to see me trying to wear them all at once! But more importantly, I hope you see me wearing a smile because I love Jesus and am so thankful for what He is doing in our Bible Study and for the time I get to spend with you each week!
Ruth Streer led our lesson this week talking about how what we say impacts others. Did you know Proverbs alone mentions our tongue/mouth 90 times? This must be a pretty important topic. Abraham Lincoln said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.” If you missed being with us, Ruth’s summary has been added to our website on the Lesson Summary Page.
Speaking of the website, please be sure you are regularly reviewing the Prayer Request page and praying for those who have a special request. Jeremiah 29:12 “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen.”
Our Fruit of the Spirit Bible verse to memorize this week is related to Kindness.
Luke 10:27 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.”
This week Talisha Alligood will lead our lesson - Know that you Know that you Know. She will be focusing on the importance of studying and knowing God’s Word and being able to stand confidently on scriptures.
Our focus verse is: 2 Timothy 2:15
We will look at the following:
1. Why is it important to study God’s Word for yourself
2. What do you need to be equipped to study
3. What is the Inductive Study method through Precept upon Precept organization
4. Practical application of the Inductive Study Method using 1 John
Prior to this week’s lesson please read all of 1 John, chapters 1-5 OUT LOUD every day up until our class on Thursday. Meditate on these scriptures and make any notes or questions you may have.
In addition to the above pre-work for this week, Talisha has provided questions you will be discussing during Small Group time. Questions 1 and 2 will be clearer and easier to answer after Talisha leads our lesson.
1. Do you have a “legacy” person? Who are you leaving a legacy for and what is your legacy? 2 Timothy 2:15
2. Do you have a Tent of Meeting?
3. How much time do you currently devote to study of the Word?
4. Are you comfortable sharing your salvation testimony with others? Maybe share at your table today about how God has transformed your life personally
The pre-work for this week is a little more than typical but I encourage you to take time to do what Talisha is recommending as it will most certainly prepare you for our time together on Thursday.
I look forward to seeing you Thursday and learning with you how to study God’s word.
Until then,
Cindy 🙏🏻💕
